Research infrastructure can be daunting to navigate, with various barriers to access. HDRH provide a range of options, for our own and your work. Refer to our Research Service Catalogue for a full list.

Our core infrastructure is hosted on the National Computing Infrastructure (NCI) at the Australian National University. That gives us access to world-leading high-performance computing, storage, and infrastructure on demand.

Colleagues working closely with HDRH, on in-kind or funded research, might have their projects hosted on our NCI tenancy. This is a professionally managed and highly scalable area on the NCI that allows us to provide hosting for a variety of digital HASS needs, as well access to the Gadi higher performance computer (HPC), one of Australia’s two Tier One HPC platforms.

We can also help you access NCI resources, including their Australian Research Environment (ARE) self-service research infrastructure for Jupyter Notebooks, R Studio, and virtual desktops. Contact us for more information.

HDRH also work with the ARDC Nectar research cloud, which offers a range of infrastructure for researchers with a national research grant, from servers on demand to the BinderHub notebook service. If you think you might be eligible for a Nectar allocation or need help working out how to use an existing allocation feel free to contact us.

HDRH can also help with public cloud infrastructure, including an HDRH AWS account. This is managed in partnership with ANU Information Technology Services (ITS), who also provide us with robust long-term hosting for appropriate projects.

We are conscious of the environmental impact of research infrastructure, and eager to work with colleagues interested in minimal computing and recycled / upcycled hardware. Hub team members have experience with Raspberry Pi and other System on Chip (SoC) hardware, and we use upcycled equipment in the Hub wherever possible.
